ALZHEIMER'S SOCIETY TREK 13. WHITBY TO ROBIN HOODS BAY AND RETURN 22 JULY 2023

After a week of Roy busily re-fitting a new skylight in the caravan, we took off for a couple of days to Abbey View Campsite near Whitby to take part in the Alzheimer's Society Trek 13 on Saturday 22 July.

The weather forecast was dire 80% chance of rain all weekend - how wrong can they be! Hardly any rain on the walk at all!

We left at 9-10am, after having a bacon sandwich and coffee, hundreds taking part, set off at 20 minute intervals. Along the Cinder track to Robin Hoods Bay where we had a lovely lunch of sandwich, pasta, crisps, snacks, fruit and hot drinks.

Back along the Cleveland Way which is such a lovely walk. Took two hours to go and just over two to get back, 45 minutes for lunch.

Greeted with a medal, name announcement as we crossed the line and a glass of prosecco. A very memorable day walked for my brother Alan who is in a care home suffering with this dreadful illness.

Doing well with the donations.! Thank you Roy for a lovely day.

LAWNSGATE FARM CAMPSITE 5TH JULY 2023

A lovely ride over the North Yorkshire moors to a small campsite Lawnsgate Farm at Lealholm. A last minute decision for 3 nights. Windy as at top of hills.

Thursday was a lovely 5 mile walk starting at Danby Moors Centre over moors tracks to Danby Beacon, a 20ft tall steel pillar on a prehistoric burial mound with stunning all- round views. Had a wander around the centre when we got back. A fine day with a cool wind.

Our last day was another superb walk, we drove to Runswick Bay, walked via Hinderwell and little lanes to Staithes, stunning in the sunshine. A gorgeous walk back along the Cleveland Way with sea views all the way.
A short but worthwhile trip away.
