Our first caravan trip since summer last
year due to the dreaded Covid, we chose Riverside Caravan Park in Pateley
Bridge, just an hour and half away.
Sun was shining and weather forecast
looked promising, stopping Tuesday 20th April till Sunday 25th.
DAY ONE
A cooler day but still some sunshine, we
walked from the campsite to do the 5-mile Nought Moor Trail, a lovely circular
walk through woods at Middle Tongue Bank to heather moorland and blanket bog of
Nought Moor with views across Guisecliffe and Yorke’s Folly. I felt as if we
were the only people on the moors, with the only sounds of streams, birds and
sheep.

DAY TWO
Another superb day with clear blue skies
and endless sunshine! A five and half mile walk called Ladies Riggs and
Ashfoldside. Contrasting landscapes and fascinating heritage through the
adandoned industrial landscape around Prosperous Smelt Mill and the secluded
beauty of Ashfoldside Beck where we enjoyed our lunch. I don’t think we’ve seen
as many pheasants and lambs ever!

DAY THREE
Third day in a row sunshine rules! Pateley
Bridge Circular, a nine-mile varied walk starting at Pateley Bridge and passed
through Brimham Rocks – amazing geological formations approximately 320 million
years old before dropping down into Low Laithe and a peaceful return along the
River Nidd.

DAY FOUR OUR LAST WALKING DAY
Just love April weather like this, bright
clear sunny day again with a cool wind. Our five-mile circular walk today was
called The Yorke’s of Bewerley, taking in the area once the home of the Yorkes
with parkland, woodlands, ponds and a Folly, originally known as The Three
Stoops, it was built in the 1760s as a landscape feature and to provide work
for local unemployed men. One pillar blew down in a storm 100 years later and
is now called Two Stoops. From the folly you can see the extent of the Yorke
estate, they owned a substantial amount of land in Niddderdale.
A wonderful relaxing and peaceful time
away after such a crazy time in lockdown.
