CAMPING AT THE COAST

After our return from the Europe trip we hoped to get away in August but it was not to be as Roy had shingles for the whole month and was not up to really doing anything, but well on the mend, we decided to visit the coast as we'd not been for ages. The campsite was Abbey View House between Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. We took off on the Bank holiday Monday for four nights.

Amazing weather for a Bank holiday Monday when we arrived. Had a short walk from Hawsker down to the cliff edge before dinner.

Our Tuesday walk was a repeat of one we did a few years ago. Glorious sun as we drove to Boggle Hole car park, walked along the old cinder track railway to Ravenscar, had a wander round the grounds of the Hall before our picnic then back past the Alum works and along the Cleveland Way to Boggle Hole for coffee and cake.About 7 miles - a beautiful walk!

Thunderstorm on Tuesday night changed the weather to windy, cloudy and cooler, we were lucky to avoid the rain showers as we did a walk from the campsite to Robin Hoods Bay then north towards Whitby on the Cleveland Way cliff path. Headed up at Hawsker then a wiggly way across fields to avoid walking on the main road. Not a well trod way but we found it despite the end part ending up in a field with horses and geese, who thankfully were not interested in us and then just the huge Alsation to bypass and we were back.

ALMOST BACK

Our last day was much better weather despite a strong wind. We drove the short distance to Hawsker and took the Cleveland Way cliff walk again, this time headed to Whitby, our second home for many years when we had a boat moored there.
Whitby was heaving with tourists as usual, had a look round St Mary's Church then down to the harbour for lunch. Headed back via the old railway Cinder track all the way back to Hawsker. A super day ending with fish and chips in Whitby!

A wonderful trip away then back home to enjoy my niece's birthday pizza party - bliss!
