MUSTON GRANGE CAMPSITE NEAR FILEY COVID FREE BREAK

 

8 October to 12 October 2020  MUSTON GRANGE CAMPSITE NEAR FILEY.

In this crazy year of Covid 19 we have escaped for 4 days to the coast before winter arrives.

A lovely quiet campsite, we had a wander down the lane to the cliff path only about 10 minutes away.

Next morning after a rainy start we drove to Speeton and parked in the church and cliff car park, headed to the cliff path and enjoyed a bracing fine day with occasional sun. Saw hundreds of gannets at Buckton cliffs while enjoying our lunch.

On Saturday we drove to Cayton caravan and motorhome campsite to meet up with Very old friend Beachy and his partner Joan. We enjoyed lunch with them, had a lovely walk along the beach at Cayton Bay, a place neither Roy nor I had been to before, then met up again in the evening for a meal at The Bull Inn Gristhorpe.

Our last day was windy and changeable, we walked from the campsite along to Filey then on cliff path towards Cayton, a two- and half-hour walk. We stayed dry most of the way until we got back to Filey then it poured down.

A lovely break from the dreaded Covid!

FIRST CAMPING SINCE CORONA VIRUS LOCKDOWN SINCE 23 MARCH 2020

Thinking life will never be normal again, we booked into this site for 4 nights.
Weather was disappointingly not as stated but good to change the scenery.
Our first day we met up with a very old friend  and his new partner and enjoyed a lovely day in Settle having a coffee then a meal in the very strange surroundings of the pub with socially distancing in place.

Second day we walked about 7 miles on the Twisleton Scar near Whernside and across from Ingleborough.

Our last day misty and few sprinkles as we did a 5ish mile walk to Victoria Cave. They say they found remains of elephant, Hippo, bear, rhino spotted hyena, deer and Roman human occupation! Fancy That!

A WEEKEND TO WATCH THE ROAD WORLD CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT STREET HEAD NEAR AYSGARTH

Sick of the rainy days, we took off to Street Head Caravan Park in Bishopdale near Aysgarth as the Mens Elite Road Race goes right past this campsite on Sunday.

After a rainy night and early morning the sun came out and we managed our 6 mile walk in good weather, some strong winds up on the tops but the sun shone often.

The loop walk was Caldron Falls to Morpeth Scar. As usual, despite having the written instructions and a walking map we couldn't find the trail up to the very top of Morpeth Scar, crazy directions and not as map. We still had a good walk as Roy took us along a trail which we then decided was wrong but good views and extended the walk. The Caldron Falls were absolutely flooded, there's been a lot of rain in the Dales!

Today was the elite Womens road race (part of the World Road Championships) We decided not to watch as we are hopefully seeing the Mens Elite Road race tomorrow.

Ended the day with a drive to Askrigg for a lovely meal in The Crown.

It rained non stop all night, the race was shortened for the mens elite taking out Buttertubs, Hawes, Muker, Reeth and Grinton Moor. So sad for all these villages who had put so much effort into decorating.

We stood on the road outside the campsite and watched the heroes fly by in pouring rain, we then moved into the pub next door and sat for 5 hours watching it on TV, many many cups of tea and coffee and beef baguettes and chips!

Finally the rain stopped as the race ended and we drove back to West Burton to look at Caldron Falls again which had even more water pouring over, we drove on to Aysgarth to see the falls looking amazing. I wonder how many gallons of water has fallen over this week!
