NORTH YORKSHIRE CAMPING - HIGH YEDMANDALE FARM. WEST AYTON 14 JUNE 2023

The weather is glorious, we are here for four nights to make the most of it!

This site is so remote up a one mile single track road with huge tractors etc coming up and down to the farmland at the top of the hill. But it is a very peaceful secluded site with only us here.

Our first day, headed to Thornton le Dale as I had a hair appointment previously booked, coffee in Baldersons before leaving the village to drive to May Beck where we did a super walk to Falling Foss, had tea and cake, saw the Hermitage a cave hewn out of a huge rock back in 1799 then back along the other side of the Beck.

Day two, one of Roy's favourite walks, last time we did it was so misty didn't see much. Today you could not ask for better weather. Walked from Ravenscar along the cinder path down to Stoupe Beck, along the beach to Boggle Hole, coffee at the the Youth Hostel and back along the Cleveland Way with picnic at the Peak Alum works - just beautiful!

Day three, a wonderful walk, one we do once a year to see the birds at Bempton Cliffs. Cloudy day but warm, drove to North Landing and walked the cliffs to Bempton RSPB boardwalk and back. Probably the best sightings we have had over the years away from the busy boardwalk area. Lots of kittiwake chicks and adorable puffins. A superb day!

SCOTLAND AND SKYE HOLIDAY 26 MAY 2023

Our last day and we were blessed with sunshine, we drove to West Scrafton and did a 6 mile walk called Great Haw. So the book that Roy's got the walk from is 30 years old, we bought it cheap in Ripon! First half was fine, when I'd put Roy right with his map reading! He took over and the rest of the hike was quite rough to put it mildly, spongy moorland with hidden pools, holes and airy fairy directions! Lunch at the sheep fold where we saw two sets of geese at a small stream with lots of tiny goslings which they immediately hid in the heather. But the weather was superb so a good walk!

Our wonderful holiday ended with a lovely meal at the Golden Lion in Leyburn.

SCOTLAND AND SKYE HOLIDAY 24/25 MAY 2023

Left Belford and arrived at Craken House Farm Caravan site at 2pm, greeted by the lovely Richard, sunshine and clear blue skies. Walked into Leyburn and bought some food from the posh shop then enjoyed a drink at the Golden Lion sat in the sun. Next day Thursday saw some sun at first which then clouded over, typical I chose to wear shorts!. Had a lovely walk up Pen Hill after driving to West Witton to park. Would you believe there was only Roy and myself up on the top until coming the other way on a higher path behind the stone wall was...... the Naked Rambler! (Not sure if it was the famous one or not) Of course I snapped a pic! Had lunch overlooking West Witton and Castle Bolton then headed back. Lots of Curlew, Lapwing and bilberries!
