ROAMING IN RIPON & MEANDERING IN MALHAM

We spent a lovely weekend with my brother and his wife at a Ripon campsite and enjoyed good company, good food, wine, shopping and walking round Ripon in the last of the summer sun.

On Sunday as they drove home we headed to Coniston Cold near Malham to hike but Monday turned out very showery so we headed into Skipton, a town we had not often visited. Famed for the Leeds Liverpool canal, we wandered round the shops, walked up a dead end canal and saw Skipton Castle then decided to walk along the tow path. What a surprise and coincidence, we bumped into our dear friends who also used to do the States trips. We knew they were going on a boating holiday but pure luck that we saw them loading up their boat!

Tuesday started with wind and drizzle but we braved the weather, drove to Malham and hiked to Malham Cove such a wonderful area, climbed the steps up the side to the limestone pavement on the top and finally the weather improved. Along to Gordale Scar, another beauty spot and finally to Janet's Foss, a pretty waterfall supposedly named after the fairy who lived in the cave at the back of the falls.

We left the next day as the weather was forecasting fog! Another superb trip!
