A SHORT HOP TO HELMSLEY

Weather is supposed to be fine if not particularly warm, we've driven half an hour to Golden Square Caravan and Camping site near Helmsley for 4 nights.

Monday dawned cloudy with short sun breaks and a good wind, but warm enough to walk without a jacket.

We drove to Sinnington and hiked a lovely circular five and half mile walk with lots of woodland. Its fungi season and I love finding different kinds. We had our picnic at Cropton village, some good views of the North Yorkshire Moors with a stop at Kirkbymoorside on the drive back to look at the shops.

A delightful walk on Tuesday in glorious sunshine. A 7 mile circular hike to Rievaulx Abbey from Helmsley. Not a lot to photograph but some long distance views.

Our last day dawned misty and warm giving way to a glorious sunshine day. We drove short distance to Hawnby, a tiny village nestling in the bottom of a valley with the other half with pub up the hill.
It was supposed to be a 6 mile round trip but we had a couple of wrong slots and poor directions, George Wilkinson of York Press fame has a lot to answer for. We did manage to get round with some slight deviations.
It's been a lovely few days walking these pretty hills so close to our home.
