COTE GHYLL CAMPSITE, OSMOTHERLEY 12 JUNE 2022

Short drive to Osmotherley for four days in a campsite that was beautiful but set in a hollow so no TV or phone signal for wifi. Sorted by buying from site.

First day we did a "Roy walk" , I'm always a bit dubious when he map reads but we've always got back! About 7 miles circular mostly in wooded area with huge bushes of rhododendrons. Got a bit wrong once but backtracked, the map is old!

DAY TWO WALK 5 MILES FROM KILDALE

Drove to Kildale and did a lovely loop walk through Kildale estate along the River Leven then a steep climb up to the moor and along to Captain Cook's Monument then back through woods to Kildale stopping to see the small railway station and the lovely church with a mouse (Mousey Thompson) on the altar rail.

DAY THREE - ROSEBERRY TOPPING WALK

We drove to the car park near Little Ayton and did a short but lovely walk up Roseberry Topping over the moor. We tried to extend it but couldn't find the path, we retraced a bit and went the usual way, but up the rear of Roseberry.
Today the sun came out and temp got to 20o. Ice creams for us both on the way back.

DAY FOUR WALK SWAINBY AND LIVE MOOR

A beautiful sunny day for a six and half mile walk from Swainby up on to Live Moor to the Bronze Age burial mound dating back to 2000 B.C. then down to Faceby for lunch on the village seat, where Roy then left his binoculars. Lucky for him they were still there when he rushed back to collect. Back to the car via Whorlton Castle and ice cream van!

A great time here, four superb walks without having to put coats on!
Out for a meal tonight in Osmotherley at The Queen Catherine Hotel.
