MOUNT COOK TO OAMARU

LAKE AVIEMORE ON OUR WAY
Sadly we left the magnificent Mount Cook area and travelled across country back to the east coast of South Island.
Before we left the valley we took a side road to Tasman Glacier the longest in NZ. The photos only show the black area at the base of the glacier.
Once we left the mountains we drove through vast empty areas of farmland with endless sheep and cattle. A couple of lakes then stopped to look at Takiroa Rock art, Maori drawings, very hot but more cloud today. Arrived in the bustling town of Oamaru where we got a beautiful campsite on the edge of the harbour with all mod cons!
Had a wander round and Roy has decided he's buying a cheap charcoal BBQ so we can eat something else instead of pasta!
Went out about 8-30pm until 10 looking for penguins, almost gave up then just near campsite we saw one and heard lots under the boats.

WE HAD GIVEN UP AFTER ALMOST 2 HOURS AND AS WE WALKED BACK TO CAMPSITE JUST OPPOSITE UNDER THE BOATS THERE THEY WERE! POOR PHOTOS AS VERY DARK AND NOT GOOD TO USE FLASH TO SCARE THEM
