FOILED BY THE WEATHER AGAIN - “DOOMED” NEVER TO SEE N.Z. VOLCANOES!

We drove to Tongariro National Park, and stopped in Whakapapa Village to get information about the three Volcanoes in the park. We hoped to do a hike in the morning between the first two volcanoes.

THIS IS WHAT WE WOULD HAVE SEEN ON THE TONGARIRO ALPINE CROSSING WE WANTED TO DO - EMERALD LAKES - A REASON TO RETURN!

MT NGAURUHOE - MT DOOM.

Mt Tongariro 1967m. Mt Ngauruhoe 2291m ( the one I dearly wanted a photo of as it was Mt Doom in LOTR films) and the tallest Mt Ruapehu at 2797m. Sadly the weather beat us and they were cloud covered! What is it with us and volcanoes!

TARANAKI FALLS

IN THE MIST ABOVE THE TOP OF THE HILLS I THINK THIS IS MT NGAURUHOE - MT DOOM!   NOT THE NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS!

WELL MT DOOM IS UP THERE SOMEWHERE!

Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Ruapehu  FROM A PICTURE OF COURSE!

TOWHAI FALLS

Still we had a lovely walk to Taranaki Falls partly in the rain and then to Tawhai Falls. The forecast for tomorrow is lots of rain and they have cancelled the shuttle buses that are used to stop people parking near the trail, we are running out of time to hang around a couple of days. You can't have everything in life and we have been so very lucky!
