Rotorua is surrounded
by geothermal parks, we opted for Hells Gate, advertised as Rotorua's
most active geothermal reserve and owned by Maori people and nearest
to campsite.
A 2.5km walk round the
park with swirling steam, pools of boiling mud , steaming fumaroles
and gurgling noises everywhere – fun!
On to Okere Falls for a
walk and came across a race going on down the falls and river. Guys
from all over NZ come here for this race – looks scary to me!
