Headed
east across France stopping at Camping de Noirrupt, Le Tholy in the
Hautes Vosges for three nights. A beautiful terraced campsite with
heated outdoor pool. Weather lovely around 26oC. Had a walk round Lac
Gerardmer on first day, quick thunderstorm part way round which
didn't last, visited Grand cascade de Tendon.

Day
two and we followed the route in the book bought from the Tourist
office! Le Hohneck, 4 hours (took us 6), 6+ miles and we clocked up
11! Not our finest bit of navigation but to be fair the book was not
very clear. Took 2 Dutch, 1 German and 2 French to direct us along
the way. We ended up following the Dutch young couple for an hour
over a supposedly shorter way, goodness knows what the other way was
like. But tired and thirsty we made it back to the Auberge where we
parked hoping for a cold drink along with another group, but it had
closed! A splendid if tough day, very warm at around 28oC.
WALKED DOWN TO THE LAC IN THE BOTTOM AND BACK UP AND ROUND AND ABOUT!

Our
last day in this area we drove to the pretty village of Le Valtin and
did a 6.5km walk up a steep narrow path arriving at the Roches du
Valtin, our lunch spot overlooking the valley and back down, another
hot day!
